Maximise your hydroponic performance and achieve phenomenal root health with Clay Pebbles from VitaLink. This premium, inert growing medium is manufactured from 100% natural kiln-fired clay, resulting in a lightweight, porous substrate perfect for controlled hydroponic systems. VitaLink Clay Pebbles boast a unique, irregular shape and lower bulk density compared to competitors, providing superior surface area for nutrient contact and exceptional aeration to prevent root rot, supporting the most vigorous plant growth.
Key Benefits of VitaLink Clay Pebbles
- pH and EC Stability: The pebbles are totally inert, maintaining a highly stable pH (5.5–7.5) and a very low EC (0.5 mS/cm²), giving growers precise control over their nutrient solution without interference.
- Superior Aeration: The porous structure and lower bulk density ensure exceptional oxygen flow and prevent compaction, which is vital for developing thick, healthy roots and maximising nutrient uptake.
- Enhanced Water Retention: Despite being free-draining, the unique, irregularly shaped pebbles are highly porous and retain sufficient moisture, offering a better balance between aeration and hydration than standard clay balls.
- Ideal for Hydroponic Systems: Perfect for use as the primary substrate in Flood and Drain, Drip-Ring, and Multi-pot systems, or as support media in Deep Water Culture (DWC) setups.
- Reusable and Durable: Crafted with strong structural integrity, these pebbles are less likely to break down, can be cleaned and reused across multiple grow cycles, making them a sustainable and cost-effective choice.
How to Use VitaLink Clay Pebbles
VitaLink Clay Pebbles are a ready-to-use medium for all controlled environments.
- Preparation (Crucial): Although triple-filtered, always rinse the clay pebbles thoroughly before use. This removes any fine dust or particles created during transit that could potentially block dripper lines, pumps, or irrigation systems.
- Hydroponic Use: Fill your net pots or system containers directly with the rinsed pebbles. Transplants (e.g., from Rockwool Starter Cubes) can be placed directly into the centre of the pebbles.
- Nutrient Management: Use a high-quality mineral nutrient designed for hydroponics, such as Canna Aqua Vega and Aqua Flores, to provide complete nutrition, as the pebbles are inert and provide no inherent nutritional value.
- Soil/Coco Mixing: To enhance drainage and aeration in traditional growing media, mix clay pebbles into Coco Coir Substrates or soil at a ratio of 70/30 or 60/40 (we also sell pre mixed in the form of Canna Coco Pebble Mix to save you the hassle). Alternatively, use a layer at the bottom of pots for improved drainage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to clean VitaLink Clay Pebbles before I use them?
Yes, although VitaLink Clay Pebbles are pre-washed and triple-filtered, it is essential to give them a quick, thorough rinse with plain water before adding them to your system. This removes any fine dust that may have built up during transit and prevents potential blockages in your pumps or drippers. Are VitaLink Clay Pebbles reusable?
Absolutely. Their strong structural integrity and inert nature mean they are highly durable and can be reused for many growth cycles. To reuse, simply remove the bulk of the old root mass, clean the pebbles with an enzyme product (like Cannazym), and then sterilise them before the next planting.Do clay pebbles provide any nutrients to the plants?
No. VitaLink Clay Pebbles are a totally inert medium, meaning they have no nutritional value (NPK 0-0-0). Their function is purely to anchor the plant and hold the nutrient solution. You must use a complete mineral hydroponic fertiliser, such as BAC Hydro Grow and BAC Hydro Bloom, from the very first watering. What is the ideal hydroponic system for clay pebbles?
Due to their excellent drainage and aeration properties, VitaLink Clay Pebbles perform optimally in re-circulating hydroponic systems where frequent watering is required. They are a preferred substrate for Flood and Drain (Ebb and Flow) systems, as they drain quickly while maintaining high oxygen levels around the roots.SKU: 1084 Free delivery on orders over £60*
